How We Learn
At St. Edmund’s we have carefully crafted our curriculum so that, from the time they join us in Nursery to the time that they leave us at the end of Year 6, each child can make the best possible progress. Each new piece of learning is sequenced so that it builds on the last, and children take part in carefully planned activities to help them understand the key points more thoroughly.
Children are given lots of opportunities to practise things that they have learned before. We know that regular rehearsal of important information will help children to retain new knowledge in their long-term memory.
We try to make learning as engaging as possible, and there are lots of opportunities in the local area for educational visits.
Teachers assess the children carefully, sometimes through formal testing but more often through careful observation. They use their assessments to identify areas where children may need further support in order to progress and to review the curriculum to ensure that it is fit for purpose.
