Physical Education
The aim of our Physical Education curriculum is to teach children the skills and knowledge they need to play a range of different sports and to develop an understanding of the positive impact that being active can have on our bodies and our minds. We also want children to enjoy sport and get into the habit of being physically active, so that they can keep themselves fit and healthy now and as they grow older.
All children have at least one hour and 45 minutes of Physical Education a week. To avoid wasting any time at school, all children come to school dressed in their PE kit on PE days.
To encourage the children to be active each day, we also provide a range of sporting activities at lunchtimes and during lessons. There is an adult-led sports activitiy on the playground most days at lunchtimes and we have a purpose built daily mile track for classes to use during the school day. We are part of the Abingdon Partnership, and children enjoy after-school competitve sports activities.
Because we believe that swimming is an important life skill, all children in Key Stage 2 receive swimming lessons, with a particular focus in Year 4.
We receive additional funding to ensure that the children receive good quality sports - please visit our PE Premium Page to learn more about how we spend this.
In Early Years, Physical Education is part of the ‘Physical Development’ Strand of the Early Years Curriculum. From Year 1 onwards, children follow the National Curriculum.
Our PE Curriculum is taught by our class teachers, who follow the TA Sports Stars scheme with support from specialist coaches.
